Zambia

Overview

Land of the Mighty Zambezi

Zambia straddles the Southern African and East African regions so can be combined with longer safaris in either. The main point of interest is Victoria Falls and that should probably be the focus of a trip here. Believe it or not the falls and the surrounding area warrant at least three days. People find they want to go back and see it again the next day, view it from different locations and do some activities related to it (micro-light or helicopter over it, bungee down it, swim at its lip in Devils Pool or white-water raft below it are some of the more adrenaline filled activities but there are also boat cruises, elephant-back safaris, horse riding, canoeing and game drives to consider). The town of Livingstone is right by the falls and staying in the town is one convenient option but staying a few miles out of town offers its own attractions.

Flying to link up with a safari in Tanzania is popular or flying to Jo'burg in South Africa. Driving through to Botswana is also possible – either as a day trip to Chobe National Park or to continue the rest of your trip.

Itinerary

This is a sample, mid-range itinerary to give you an idea of what’s on offer, however all our itineraries are tailor-made to best suit the time of year you want to travel, your interests, timeframe and budget.

Victoria Falls Short Extension

This safari was created as a short extension to visit to Victoria Falls and enjoy its environs and activities by using high quality accommodation away from the crowds, on the shores of the Zambezi River.

Day 1: Arrive at Livingstone airport and be taken to Waterberry Lodge on the shores of the Zambezi

This luxury lodge is situated a few miles outside the town on the banks of the river. Sit on the lawns by the bank – listen to hippos honking and search for crocs gliding by. Waterberry offers a full range of tours and activities in the area including daily trips to the falls themselves as part of the package as well as helping you with any of the other activities not included.

Day 2: Go and visit the Falls

A short drive to the falls and you will be guided to the best parts of it- from the different bridges at its top to  a hike down to the very base of the falls. If you want to cross over to the Zimbabwean side then your guide will help with the Visa procedure so you can see it from there and visit the town of "Vic Falls" on that side of the river

Day 3: Choose another day of activities at Victoria Falls

Visit the falls again in the morning and undertake some more of the other activities in the afternoon.

A dip in Devils Pool right at the top edge of the falls is possibly the most unique.

Day 4: Fly out of Livingstone

Continue your onward plans- either with a flight to Tanzania to continue your safari there or to South Africa or Botswana.

From $2500 USD per person sharing.

Other things to consider are a wildlife safari in Luangwa National Park, the northern part is especially remote  and excellent for adventurous walking safaris. Also the Lower Zambezi National Park offers unique canoe trips.
